Recycling and Green Grants - Community Council encourages continued use.
Newsdate 18/06/2007
The Community Council would like to remind all members of the public of its
Green Grants Scheme.
In the 6 years of the scheme, the community's efforts in bringing recyclable
materials to the site has realised almost £15,390 which the community council
has been able to distribute in the form of 49 grants.
However in recent weeks Powys County Council has begun collection of sorted
recyclable material as part of the weekly refuse round. This may result
in a decline in the amount of material brought to the collection site,
which in turn may result in a reduction in the amount of direct benefit
to the Green Grants Scheme.
Although the community council welcomes recycling by a variety of means,
it would specifically like to encourage everyone to continue to bring
recyclable material to the collection site at Harry Tuffins Car Park
so that funds raised locally remain local, and the Churchstoke area
continues to receive maximum benefit directly through the Green
Grants Scheme.

The community council adopted the collection site in Churchstoke from
Powys County Council in August 2001, and through its Green Grants scheme
ensures that the money raised from recycling comes directly back to the
community.
Churchstoke Community Council Chairman, Mrs Barbara Davies said,
"It is very rewarding to see the continuing success of both the collection
site and the Green Grants scheme, and very pleasing that re-cycling money
raised locally remains within our community. This year the recycling site
has realised more money and we have had more grant applications than ever
before. We are also very grateful to Harry Tuffin's for their generous
support by hosting and maintaining the site."
"This demonstrates that environmental action is something that can be
applied locally and can pay real and practical dividends for our community.
I would encourage everyone to make use of the collection banks for glass
and plastic bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, textiles, and garden waste.
The more we use it, the more we benefit our environment, and the more we
benefit our local community in particular"..

Council Tax 2004-2005 - Community Councl precept changes by 1%
Newsdate 25/03/2004
Council Tax 2004-2005
The Churchstoke Community Council precept is the smallest part
of your council tax bill.
This year because of the very severe problems facing Powys County
Council, and the fact that it has had to increase its part of the
council tax by 9.5%, your local community council has budgeted for
an increase of only 1% in its own precept.
This small increase has been achieved by limiting the programme
of work for 2004-2005, and by very careful management of community
council resources.
The community council believes this action will be in the best
interests of council tax payers in this area.

Churchstoke F.C. progress in J. Emrys Morgan Cup.
Newsdate 29/02/2004
Pencader 2 - 3 Churchstoke
Churchstoke Football Club put their indifferent form to one side as the Club
dramatically clinched a semi-final place in the prestigious
Emrys Morgan Cup.
This is the top cup competition for amateur league clubs playing in Montgomeryshire,
Aberystwyth and District, Cardiganshire, and Mid-Wales south leagues, and this
season attracted 75 entries.
Following a bye in round 1, Churchstoke beat Gwilli Rangers 5-1 in round 2 and then
local Montgomeryshire league rivals Bettws 2-1 in round 3. A penalty shootout
victory over Newecastle in round 4, after drawing 3-3, left Churchstoke with a tricky
quarter-final tie away to Pencader from the Cardiganshire League on February 14th.
Despite the absence of a couple of key players the team made the long journey
with high expectations, but in an even and sometimes scrappy first half found
themselves trailing 1-0 at half time. Emile Douzi and Trevor Dunham failed to
capitalise on half chances with a sticky playing surface making passing difficult.
Manager Graham Yapp's half-time team talk did the trick as Churchstoke pushed
forward in search of an equaliser which came on the hour as veteran campaigner
Roy Price drilled in a low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Pencader
however, regained the lead after 75 minutes when a good cross from the right
was convertyed.
Pint sized Tont Meredith then brought Churchstoke back on level terms after 80 minutes
when he beat a defender and slipped the balls through the keeper's legs. With
players tiring and extra-time looking a certainty, Churchstoke launched one
final attack in search of a winner.
Simon Tanner and Roy Price combined well on the left to set up Meredith in the
centre of the box and he calmly stroked the ball into the net for the
winner
in the 4th minute of injury time to leave Pencader with no way back.
Churchstoke's reward is a semi-final tie against Montgomeryshire league rivals
Abermule to be played at Newtown's Latham Park on Wednesday 10th March, K.O. at 7:30 pm.
