Elections 5th May: Results of Uncontested Elections
The County Returning Officer has published the results of Uncontested Elections for Churchstoke Communiy Council.
The results show 7 nominees for 12 seats were received for persons wishing to stand as town councillors across the 2 electoral wards in the community. The following persons have been validly nominated and elected unopposed to each ward…
Churchstoke ward: Mike Jones, Andrew Richards, Brian Smith, Carole Smith, Jon Wakelam, Mike Whittall
Hyssington ward: Bob McLintock
Clerk to the Council Ed Humphreys added,
“Community councillors are elected as representatives of the community to consider matters together, and then make collective decisions on behalf of the community as a whole. The elections process was the opportunity for those who have good observations and ideas about whether or how to change the status quo and make a difference to the community for the better, to come forward to try to put them into practice.
I extend a welcome to all new community councillors and thank retiring ones for their past service.
Whilst some might be disappointed that that so few have been prepared to stand for election, being a councillor is unlikely to be everyone’s liking and there may be other ways to influence the community for the better perhaps though the volunteer organisations or clubs which put in so much effort.
Newly elected community councillors will assume office on 9th May and will be required to sign a declaration of acceptance of office and an undertaking to abide by the code of conduct. The community council may co-opt to fill remaining vacancies, for which public notice will be given.
The new council’s first business will be transacted at the Annual Meeting on 18th May when it elects the Chair and Deputy Chair, the positions of special responsibilities, and representatives to outside bodies’."

Elections 5th May: Statement of Persons Nomimated
The County Returning Officer has published the Statement as to Persons Nominated for Churchstoke Community Council, showing 7 nominations for community councillors across the 2 electoral wards in the community. The nominees in each ward are…
Churchstoke ward: Mike Jones, Andrew Richards, Brian Smith, Carole Smith, Jon Wakelam, Mike Whittall
Hyssington ward: Bob McLintock
As vacancies remain in both wards, the above nominees will be elected unopposed when the Returning Officer issues formal Notice of Uncontested Results in due course.
Clerk to the Council, Ed Humphreys welcomed nominees: “Whilst it’s disappointing that vacancies remain, and some of those who may have plenty of good ideas haven’t come forward, I certainly extend a warm welcome those who have. After all, local councils have the general electoral mandate, can raise and allocate resources, and, of course, are local.
I’d like to thank all retiring community councillors for the time and effort they’ve committed over the last 5 years. People who make this commitment and are prepared to work with others, can help make the community a better place. A special thanks is due to Chairs, and councillors with special responsibilities or positions as representatives to outside bodies during the last term.
All community councillors, regardless of whether they have served before, will begin their term of office on 9th May. The first business of the new term will be transacted at the Annual Meeting on 18th May when they elect the Chair and Vice Chair, the positions of special responsibilities, and representatives to outside bodies. They will also begin a process of co-option to fill the remaining vacancies."
